Due to the growth of an important representative of cosmetic, pharmaceutical and veterinary laboratories in the Dominican Republic, it decided to invest in the construction of a new distribution centre in the city of Santo Domingo in order to provide a faster and more complete service to its customers as well as to expand its product range. For this purpose, KONVEX developed and implemented an integrated solution using Pallet Rack and Mezzanine Racking combined with Flow Rack dynamic order picking systems and manually loaded picking racks.
The implementation of the different systems led to a perfect organisation of the distribution centre, distributed in two zones, one for veterinary products and the other for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, which due to their condition cannot be mixed.
For the veterinary products area, several lines of Pallet Rack were installed, where on level 0 the medium pallets were located, while on the rest of the 6 levels full pallets were located, thus taking advantage of the floor level to perform picking operations directly from the pallets. It should be noted that this area was physically separated from the rest of the warehouse by a panel, avoiding the possibility of mixing veterinary products with cosmetic and pharmaceutical products.
For the cosmetics and pharmacy area, where product turnover is higher, several rows of Pallet Rack and a Mezzanine Pick Tower were installed, which integrates two rows of Flow Rack in the lower part for order preparation, while in the upper part there are two rows of picking racks for the storage of material arranged in cardboard boxes.
