The Mexican company, leader in the distribution of FMCG products with 6 distribution centres strategically located throughout the country of Mexico, relied on the experience of KONVEX for the design and implementation of its new Distribution Centre in Aguascalientes. For the design of this new centre, the handling elements, the different loading units, the rotation and the characteristics of the products were taken into account to provide an integral, excellent and functional solution in order to obtain a better organisation, maximum optimisation of space and to make operations faster and simpler in order to offer a better service to its customers.
For high turnover products, solutions were needed for loading, storage and preparation operations to be carried out in a perfect, fast and agile manner. To this end, Push-Back systems combined with Pallet Flow were installed in the areas destined for this type of product.
The Push-Back that follows the LIFO configuration (last pallet in, first pallet out) mainly allows materials to be available at all times and provides a high storage capacity. Pallet Flow, which follows the FIFO configuration (first pallet in, first pallet out), allows picking directly from the pallets in an easy way and, as it is a dynamic system, pallets are always available in the unloading area.
For the high-value goods area, a two-storey Pick Tower mezzanine was installed with a manual picking system, 3 Push-back levels in the upper part of the mezzanine for storage and a single Pallet Rack line-up on one of the sides also for storage. To guarantee maximum control of this type of products, this area was closed off with security enclosures.
For the two areas of medium and low turnover, where the number of order preparation is not as high as those of high turnover, a solution was designed consisting of a double-depth Pallet Rack for storage with Flow Rack and manual picking on the lower levels with an aisle for picking where orders are prepared.
For the storage areas, the solution installed was the single and double-depth Pallet Rack. In the storage areas, the Pallet Rack continues to be one of the best systems due to its versatility, adaptability and simplicity.
